地史时期保存的细菌和古菌等微生物对环境变化响应灵敏、对地质环境的作用重大,但它们不能像动植物化石那样可以从形态上开展研究,这一瓶颈影响人们对地史时期微生物的研究。利用GC、GC-MS、LC-MS、GC-TC/C-IRMS等先进技术手段研究地质体中保存的微生物脂类分子及其同位素,探索地球生物学两大前沿领域的科学问题:1)陆地微生物对新生代全球气候变化的响应,2)海洋微生物对导致生物大灭绝的古海洋环境的响应。
