Dr. Wu is a renowned scientist in the areas of advanced control and intelligent automation and has a high reputation. He published 10 monographs and 551 SCI-indexed papers (IEEE Transactions: 152, IFAC journals: 62, IET journals: 19). According to the Web of Science (Dec. 29, 2023), his papers were cited 20777 times. 43 papers were the ESI-highly-cited ones (8 in the top 0.1%). He has been included in the Clarivate (formerly Thomson Reuters) Highly Cited Researchers in 2014-2016, 2020, 2022, and 2023. He and his research team have contributed greatly to advancing the engineering research area at China University of Geosciences into the top 0.1% of ESI in 2021.

  Dr. Wu has devoted himself to engineering applications of control theory and intelligent methods. He has carried out pioneer work in the design and implementation of distributed expert control systems for nonferrous metallurgical processes, and online optimization and control for iron and steel industrial processes. He holds 99 patents and 29 software copyrights. He has been a principal investigator of 50+ research projects, including a Major Research Project of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC, 2018-2022), a Major International Joint Research Project of NSFC (2013-2017), and a Major International Joint Research Project of Ministry of Education of China (2017-2026).

  He has received numerous honors, including the 1999 IFAC (International Federation of Automatic Control) Control Engineering Practice Prize Paper Award and the 2013 Second-Class Prize of China National Natural Science Award.

  He has conducted academic exchanges and joint research with scholars from research groups in the world, such as University of South Wales, University of Liverpool, University of Duisburg-Essen, University of Zielona Gora, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Waseda University, University of Alberta, and University of Johannesburg.

  Dr. Wu is a Fellow of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and CAA (Chinese Association of Automation), and a Vice-President of the Technical Committee on Control Theory of CAA. He serves (served) as an AE of Control Engineering Practice, Information Sciences (2018-2023), IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, etc. He also played a key role in many important international and domestic conferences, e.g., a key member of the Chinese Control Conference and Chinese Process Control Conference, the General Chair of the 2018 Chinese Control Conference, and the Steering Committee Chair of the 2023 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems.
