Personal Profile

Hongrui Qiu got his Bacholar of Science degree from University of Science and Technology of China under the supervison of Dr. Xiaofei Chen in 2013. His dissertation title is "Topographic correction for 2D SH Case and its application based on the GGRTM Method". Then, he went to University of Southern California for Ph.D. degree and his advisor is Dr. Yehuda Ben-Zion. He defended his Ph.D. dissertaion titled "Multi-scale imaging and monitoring of crustal and fault zone structures in southern California" in 2019. From 2019-2023, he worked as a Postdoctoral researcher in Rice University (with Prof. Fenglin Niu), MIT and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (with Dr. Nori Nakata) after graduation. Now he is a Professor at the School of Geophysics and Geomatics in China University of Geosciences in Wuhan.


Hongrui has worked on various topics in seismology, including multi-scale imaging and monitoring of fault zones and the surroudning area using dense seismic arrays, applications of machine learning algorithms in seismology, seismic hazard evaluation etc. He has more than 20 research articles published in SCI journals and served as reviewers for several well-known journals (e.g., JGR, GRL, GJI, SRL). He got AGU Editors’ Citation for Excellence in Refereeing for two successive years (2021 and 2022).
